About Neuroscience

I can be a bit of a science geek. I tend more towards reading about brain science, neuroscience.
- William Mapother (Actor)

We offer an undergraduate major leading to a BA or BS degree and a minor. This program is housed in the Department of Psychology and is 1 of 16 interdisciplinary studies concentrations within the Thomas Harriott College of Arts and Sciences. Neuroscience is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge, research skills, and critical thinking capabilities that will help prepare them for a career in diverse areas within the biomedical sciences (such as psychopharmacology, neuroanatomy, neuropsychology, and neurotoxicology), a wide variety of medical specializations (such as family medicine, psychiatry, dentistry, neurology, and neurosurgery), and other health-related professions (such as optometry, pharmaceuticals, and occupational therapy). Indeed, many of the course requirements in the curriculum overlap with the undergraduate courses required by most graduate schools and medical schools. The curriculum includes a strong core of biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology courses, mentored-research experience in scientific laboratories, a two-semester senior thesis project, a two-semester senior capstone sequence, and a plethora of electives spanning those disciplines.

Major and Minor Configurations
Students can double major, triple major, or add a minor(s). Neuroscience naturally complements psychology, biology, and chemistry but is not restricted to these fields. Other undergraduate fields include biochemistry, engineering, physics, public health studies, and many areas in the social sciences, humanities, and fine arts. Contact Dr. Tran to discuss the benefits and/or feasibility of different configurations.
